The Jawbone Up3 Shakedown
We know that the Jawbone Up3 has been on the market for a while now so a lot of you have had a chance to form your own opinions on it. However, because it has been on the market for a while we’ve really gotten a chance to assess all of the pros and cons. We happen to favor this wearable over the competitors. Let us tell you just a few reasons why.
It is splash resistant, but not water resistant so it shouldn’t be submerged under water, and yes, you need to remove it before you shower. This wearable is great because it only takes about an hour to charge so you when the battery runs out you can let it charge while you check your e-mails or read a book. The battery realistically lasts for about a little over a week.
What really makes the Jawbone Up line unique is the fact that, unlike the competitors, the sleep monitoring technology has actually been available since the earliest model. We like this particular wearable for the simple fact that they pioneered this technology for consumers, so we trust their product.
I’ve been using the Jawbone line of sleep/activity trackers since the very first version. When this new consumer technology emerged, it was not quite as advanced as it is now of course, and at the time it only measured “deep” and “light” sleep. Now, the technology has gone from using complex algorithms with use of special proximity sensors to track sleep once the Jawbone Up “sleep tracking” feature was activated, to measuring more advanced sleep stats including REM sleep using the additional galvanic skin response along with the built-in heart rate sensor for advanced sleep tracking.
Why the Up3 and Not the Up4?
I chose the Jawbone Up3 over the Up4 because at the time the only real difference there seemed to be was the NFC option to use the Up4 to pay for items with your American Express card using just the band. For the price, and for my particular needs, it didn’t seem worth the extra dough.
Something you don’t know about Jawbone’s “Up” line is the fact that they are offering specialized corporate plans for businesses to encourage corporations to help motivate their employees to practice healthy habits. There are obvious “pros” to this but something that you might not have thought about as an employee is that technically, if your employer can see data from your Up Band from when you went to sleep last night, they’re going to be more likely to know if you were out partying the night before. That might be another “pro” for them but a “con” for you.
Either way, if you’re doing what you’re supposed to and you want to live a healthy happy life, the Jawbone Up3 is an excellent option.
