Lapalux is Releasing the Long-Awaited "Ruinism" on July 30, 2017
Lapalux has been working on his new album for a couple of years now, twisting knobs, rearranging cords, and sequencing sounds to get just the right formula. If you're looking for that album that speaks to you this year, look no further. This is the one. "Ruinism" was made entirely with analog sounds that were bent and shifted to almost max capacity for those eerie sounds projecting from each track.
Already Lapalux's single "Rotted Arp (feat. Louisahhh)" is like, "it" though. I'm having a difficult time describing this in a way that would make sense to any rational person. I'm going to need you to think a little bit abstractly in terms of visuals compared to sounds right now.
This is what this song reminds me of, here I go: The castle in the Disney Movie, "The Little Mermaid" is sliced up into fragmented strips with brassy colors reflecting hints of purple, red, yellow, and a tinge of orange at times, revolving in unison, guided by the voice of the only stable being left on the planet. If you listen to the words though, you'd understand that Louisahhh is saying some kind of crazy stuff.
Oh yeah, and I'm not high. I don't smoke weed, so I'm sorry to disappoint. I'm actually one of those people who gets ASMRS from listening to music, totally sober. I won't knock anyone who smokes weed though. That's your thing. More power to you. If you typically listen to "Top 40's" you might need to expand your mind a bit to enjoy what this guy is producing. If you're a weirdo like me with robot ears, you don't have to expand anything except your hard-drive space to download the album here.
I could probably draw my crazy description of what I envisioned the kinda creepy sounds would look like for you better than I could describe it. I guess what I'm trying to say is this is an inspiring piece. It makes me want to draw what I see, but I know I'm not the only one who is crazy because when I asked another listener if even just the single I just described made them feel like they saw something, they described something very very similar to what I just described to you.
Let me just say though, if you enjoy this kind of music, your mind probably doesn't function like everyone else's anyway. Let's just leave it at that.
So, Lapalux released this album through Brainfeeder. Brainfeeder is a label that was created by Flying Lotus. It is based out of LA and encompases artists worldwide. Brainfeeder has been used to sign and promote Daedalus, DJ Paypal, Jeremiah Jae, Lorn, Ras G, Mr. Oizo, Teebs, The Gaslampkiller, Thundercat, Tokimonsta, and more. Most of these artists are pretty thick in the LA underground hiphop/jazz fusion scene. A lot of them have consumed Low End Theory, a popular show that takes place on Wednesday nights in Los Angeles at the Airliner.
